Henna Party

This weekend a fellow worker from SA came to visit us here at training and we had a Henna party.  She drew various designs on our hands that we could use to tell stories from the Word.  We also had a dessert fellowship afterwards which was super yummy considering we don't have many desserts around here!
The South Asia Ladies

The Parable of the Lost Son

Henna is a plant used to dye skin, hair, fingernails, leather or wool. Henna art is done in homes, beauty shops and even on street corners. While drawing the henna designs there is a chance for women to talk and build relationships. When women are wearing henna, others admire the art on their hands. In all of these situations, there is an open door for the Truth to be shared.

A Day in the Life...Training

I am starting my 4th week of training in VA before I head overseas( 6 weeks from Wednesday...YIKES!). Things are going really well. There are 106 other people (singles, couples, families) here as well. It is a wonderful opportunity to get to know Amy, who will be my teammate and roommate in South Asia, as well as another family going to our team.  If you are curious, here is the schedule of an average day:

8:00                Group discussion on Acts
9:00 – 12:00 Sessions
12:00 – 1:00  Lunch
1:00 – 3:00    Sessions
3:00 – 5:00    Some days extra sessions/meetings during this time
5:00 – 6:00    Dinner

So as you can see basically we sit in sessions and eat:) While the food is much better than I remembered from the last time I was here, there are no desserts:( We do, however, have a wonderful mentor couple from South Asia who take tremendous care of us. They have helped in so many ways, one of which is always bringing cookies and candy to our meetings.

Some other "highlights" of training:

Immunzations: so far I have had 4 shots and we have 2 clinics to go
The squatty potty: to help us practice using an Asian style toilet in the comfort of an American bathroom
Quad living: Sharing a common living area with other families with individual sleeping/kitchen area
Small group worship/study: Each Sunday we meet as a small group (mine is all those going to South Asia) and worship, pray, study together
Cultural Worship: Each Sunday night we worship as an entire group in the style of various cultures.
Sweet Frogs: A yummy frozen yogurt place we escape to off campus:)
New friends: I am enjoying meeting and getting to know people who are going to the ends of the earth

I hope to get a picture up soon with all of us heading to South Asia.
