Many of you reading may already know that I, along with my small group, have been seeking to demonstrate Christ’s love to a Burmese refugee family for the last 6 months. We have had the opportunity to teach English, take them to various appointments, teach them to ride the bus and most importantly become part of their family. This family of 11, yes I said 11, stole our hearts from the first visit. There are 2 precious babies and their teenage mothers, 2 little girls, 2 middle school age children, 1 married couple, and 1 grandmother!
In December, 7 members of the family moved to Indiana, leaving the two girls and their parents here. Our group was heartbroken about saying goodbye to these precious people that have become family to us. We had to realize they were never ours in the first place. If the Lord brought them out of a war-torn country, through 11 years in a refugee camp and to us, then He surely had a plan for them in Indiana as well. We took every opportunity to speak truth to them the last week they were here and again explain to them it was the love of Christ that compelled us in all we did for them. We said goodbye to them not knowing if we would see them again in this life or for eternity….
We shouldn’t have been surprised at our Father’s intricate care for this family. They had been in Indiana for only a week when I was contacted by a pastor who was with them at their apartment! Not only was he a believer but he has been working with Burmese refugees for 10 years and speaks Burmese!! I was in awe at the Lord’s care for this family. While it had seemed He was taking them away from us, it appears He is continuing to draw them to himself and make it possible they will hear the truth of the Gospel in their heart language.
Please continue to pray the Lord would make Himself known to this precious family and that we would stand with them as we worship our Savior for eternity.
